My gauge has this number on it: 310.274/9/27 2.91 (I think the last bit might be the date of manufacture). I'll add a photo when I get home.

Unfortunately I don't. I would think if you take the old sender to a place that sells VDO gauges they should be able to ID the old one. From memory it often sits around 70-80 but I think I've seen it at 90 a few times. On the Jap spec ones there is no scoop to direct air to the oil cooler as the A/C compressor is in the way. Mine sits just over 80 all the time, except when idiling for long periods then it slowly heads up to over 90 before the electric fan kicks in (jap spec). Maybe the thermostat is not quite shutting properly, although 80 sounds fine to me.
