Sorry to hear it needed so much work again.

Mine too has needed some work, but a little less than yours.
I've just fitted a new steering rack and a new turbo too.

I hope when mine has been tuned again it will be ok.
Here is a pic of my new turbo. It all went back together last Sat and it doesnt smoke anymore :D

That's looking good, I hope mine will before too long but I/we've discovered another problem, there's about a three inch crack in the centre branch of the exhaust manifold..... aarrgghh

The best I've found so far is a used one from Avonbar for around £120 +vat. What does anyone think about that.. good or bad price?

You are not having much luck are you.
I too had manifold problems but mine was a corroded mating surface.
i tried to find someone who would remove the studs and machine the surface, but found no one.
in the end i drilled out the studs my self and spent a day filing it flush.
i did look for a new manifold but too was offered a used one from avonbar.
Unfortunately even a used assembly with a turbo usually goes for about that on ebay. You might drop lucky if someone lists one that needs a refurb but you might end up with the same problem as i did.
i hope someone else on the forum can be more help.

Seems a bit pricey but like all turbo bits now they are getting rarer each year. If you are ever stuck again for something machining give me a shout we have a local machine shop that does loads of stuff for us engine reconditioning wise and could likely get him to do it under duress. Problem with machining a flange like that is getting it set up so you can machine it.

Exhaust manifold got for £30, bargain I thinks. Even if it's c**p, it's still better than what was on there.
I'm optimistic that things will come together by the end of next week, then all I have to do is pay for it!! :cry: :cry:

Latest news....
They fired up the refurbed engine for the first time this afternoon and apparently sounds quite good. (If I'm right, with 60 thou pistons , it's now a 1330 :D )

I might get it back by the weekend but I've told them not to hurry, I'd rather have it right and collect it next week.

Then I have to decide whether to sell it. It's sad but I haven't really missed it, perhaps once I've experienced the new engine and turbo, I might change my mind. We'll see

Great news on the engine rebuild.
I hope you decide to keep your car after all the hardwork and money that it has been put in to it, but i can understand if all the problems put you over the edge.

Mine is running nice now so i'm happy at last.

I got the car back on Wednesday. :D
..for about 15 minutes. :cry:
Ran very smooth and you could tell it's got a lot more poke than before, but after about 5 miles it started chucking out more and more smoke, about turn....

The garage had done 40 or so miles in it apparently without any problems so somethings gone awry. They're going to take it apart and see what's happened but my patience now matches my bank balance.

How much for an ERA that doesn't go??
