new seats to finish the project
new seats to finish the project
Hi everyone
As you all should know by now i have been creating a replica era for some time now. The main thing spoiling the look of the car was the interior.
Earlier this year i managed to buy a passenger seat from a jap import and i have reverse engineered it to make a pair of seats for my project. I also manage to locate a company who used to deal with rover in the 80's & 90's to produce aftersales seat covers / repairs for them.
They took the genuine covers and dismantled them, made new pattens from them then made me 2 covers in real leather. They also managed to re-assemble the genune cover and you can hardly tell its been apart.
it was not cheap, but i think it was well worth it.
The hardest part was cutting & shaping the metro seat foam to fit both the modified frames & the new covers.
Have a look at the photo's and see what you think.

Re: new seats to finish the project
Those look fantastic. Well done. Your replica looks a lot more original than my real ERA! I think I'll have to have a go at replicating some of the missing bits of the interior at some stage.

Thanks for the comments
all i have to do now is make some rear pocket lids but i'm out of ideas on how to make them at the moment.
i did nearly have a pair once. when Rover still existed i brought as many items as i could afford to go into my loft for the future project.
there was not much still available but these items were. the guy said they were £29.50 each but when they arrived he realised they were £295.50 each so he sent them back for stock.
Anyway, i hope you manage to reproduce some of your missing parts.
all the best
Darren

Re: new seats to finish the project
Hi All
i have managed to get a little closer on completing my seats.
today i have taken delivery of a pair of black metro headrests.
I just need to get some flexible paint on them to finish.

Re: new seats to finish the project
If you nip down to nearest Jawel Paints they will be able to knock you up an aerasol in what ever shade of grey you deem correct. Tell them you are painting a rubber bumper and they will add some plasticiser so it can flex.
Clean them with some soapy water and a clean pan scourer the green fury type to degrease and key them and then wipe down with some panel wipe and then paint... should last well, lots of thin coats...

Re: new seats to finish the project
Thanks guys for your help.
I have tried jawel paints in erdington and they say they can't make it flexible enough.
The place i know that does do a paint that should work is halfords. The website shows them at £9.99 per aerosol and they do dark grey or light grey. Depending on the weather i might give one a try tonight to see the shades of grey. Its difficult to tell from a photo.
i will keep you aprised of my results.
Regards
Darren
